Our pre-university pathways are specially tailored routes to university study designed by experts in this academic field, that is, the University of New South Wales & Kings Education. These pathways can offer options that may be a better fit for some students than traditional routes to a university degree.
Why Choose a Pre-university Pathway?
Pre-university pathways are tailor made for university entry for international students in terms of Academic English support. These pathways all have an integral element of improving traditional language skills; reading, writing, listening and speaking, but also developing academic study skills such as note-making, constructing essays from sources, and taking part in academic seminar discussions. Having the correct Academic English and study skills will ensure that when students arrive at university they are equipped to really ‘hit the ground running’ and excel.
Another way in which pre-university pathways are tailor-made for international students is the nature of assessments. Traditional single end-of-year exams are incredibly stressful as a student’s academic career is dependent on performing well on a particular day. In contrast, pre-university pathways spread assessment over end-of-term testing in a variety of formats, thus avoiding the all too familiar stressful 'cliff-edge' situation that students have traditionally had to go through, and very importantly, replicating the nature of assessments that students will encounter at university.
It’s clear that pre-university pathways better prepare students over a shorter period due to the makeup of the course. The time saved by following a pre-university pathway will be better spent later in university following the increasingly popular trend of taking a placement year while at university. A great many UK universities offer work placement years. During this year, students have an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in their course sector by working for a company or organisation. A work placement year gives students greater industry knowledge, helps them connect with industry professionals, boosts their CV with real work experience, and gives them greater insight into possible career paths. Alternatively, a student might be incredibly keen to get their teeth into the world of work, and finishing your degree a year earlier affords this opportunity.
