Programme Description

The International Foundation Programme (IFP) is an A Level-equivalent qualification, specially designed for students who have completed IGCSE, O Level, or equivalent and are aiming to pursue undergraduate studies at top-ranking universities worldwide.

Offered by the University of London, one of the UK’s most historic and prestigious institutions established in 1836, the International Foundation Programme equips students with the academic foundation and study skills essential for success at university level. With over 45,000 students in 190 countries, the University of London is a global leader in delivering world-class education.

At Westminster College Bangkok, an Officially Recognised Teaching Centre with the University of London, students follow the same syllabus, study materials, and assessment standards developed by University of London academics, ensuring a consistent standard of academic excellence and a uniform learning experience worldwide.

Over the course of this intensive one-year sixth form programme, students develop both subject-specific knowledge and core academic skills, including:

On successful completion, students are awarded a University of London International Foundation Certificate, a qualification that is highly regarded by leading universities in the UK and globally, opening direct route to undergraduate degrees in fields such as Business, Economics, International Relations, Law, Science and more.

The International Foundation Programme (IFP) is designed and quality-assured by the University of London, with academic direction from LSE and contributions from its prestigious federation of institutions. These include University College London (UCL), King’s College London, the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), and SOAS.

Entry Requirement

This program is open to students with the following educational record or qualifications.

To be eligible for the IFP, students must:

  • Be at least 17 years old before 31 December in the year of registration.
  • Have passed at least four separate subjects at GCSE or equivalent, with grades A to C.
  • IELTS 6.0 (with 5.5 minimum in all sub-tests) or equivalent

Study & Learning Support

Students benefit from face-to-face instruction at Westminster College Bangkok, a University of London Recognised Teaching Centre. Our centre provides structured academic support, ensuring students are well-prepared for their final assessments, which are set and graded by the University of London.

Typical weekly study commitment:

  • 15 hours of classroom-based learning (lectures, seminars, and discussions)
  • 20-25 hours of independent study (reading, research, and assignments)
  • 1-2 hours of tutor support and academic guidance

This schedule replicates the self-directed learning environment of university, helping students build strong study habits before progressing to undergraduate studies.
