What is a University Foundation Programme?
Equivalent to two years of A-Levels

If we were to summarise what a University Foundation Programme is, we would call it a “Pathway to further study abroad.” This is because it offers more than just a preparatory course, contrary to what many people might think. In fact, the level of study in a University Foundation Programme is equivalent to that of A-Levels or the IB Diploma. In simpler terms, a University Foundation Programme is one of the options for obtaining a secondary-level qualification—one that is more versatile, shorter, and taught at a level reflecting university-style content.

Foundation programmes also come with many advantages. Most programmes, such as our UNSW Foundation or our Kings Foundation, match the level of A-Levels or the IB Diploma, whilst simultaneously preparing students for their chosen university course. One of the most crucial reasons for choosing a Foundation Programme is that it confers a recognised certificate, which guarantees eligibility to apply to leading universities.

Getting to know the University Foundation Programme

A University Foundation Programme has been developed from traditional programmes, enhanced and improved through a combination of curricula from globally renowned providers such as Kings Education and UNSW College. (At Westminster College Bangkok, we are partners with both Kings and UNSW.) Thanks to this development and integration, the University Foundation Programme has content equivalent to two years of A-Levels or the IB Diploma, condensed into a much shorter duration—just a few months to one year. Furthermore, it is internationally recognised through Kings Education or UNSW College, which means that every student enrolling at Westminster College Bangkok is guaranteed entry into top universities that accept Kings or UNSW credentials.

Who is Westminster College Bangkok’s Foundation Programme for?

We offer two types of Foundation Programmes: one accredited by Kings Education and another by UNSW. The main difference is that Kings Education is accredited in the UK, while UNSW is accredited in Australia.
