At Westminster College Bangkok, learning goes beyond the textbook — especially in our science classes. Recently, our brilliant UNSW College Foundation students stepped into the shoes of real scientists for a hands-on chemistry experiment that brought the subject to life.
In this engaging chemistry activity, students explored the concept of empirical formulas by conducting an experiment with magnesium oxide. Using scientific tools, observation, and careful measurements, they were challenged to determine the simplest ratio of magnesium to oxygen in a compound.
With every step — from heating magnesium to recording results — our students showed impressive focus and responsibility. It wasn’t just about doing the experiment right, but about truly understanding how chemistry works in the real world.
Experiments like this don’t just teach students how to follow instructions — they build curiosity, confidence, and critical thinking. Our students asked thoughtful questions, made accurate observations, and learned to think like chemists.
Seeing their excitement and teamwork during the activity was a proud moment for all of us. These practical lessons are part of what makes science at Westminster College so special.
We believe that great science education is built on curiosity and hands-on discovery. Whether students dream of becoming doctors, engineers, or researchers, these early experiments give them a strong foundation to build on.
We’re proud of our students for their dedication and effort — and we can’t wait to see what they discover next.
If you’re looking for a school where science is exciting, practical, and meaningful, Westminster College Bangkok is the perfect place to start. Our international curriculum and supportive teachers help students learn deeply and prepare for top universities around the world.
