This year, our Chinese New Year festivities were more than just an event, they were a heartfelt tribute to culture, connection, and community. As the red lanterns lit up and joyful wishes echoed through the campus, students and staff gathered to share laughter, learning, and traditions.
Chinese New Year holds special meaning for many of our students, especially those from countries that honour the Lunar New Year. At Westminster College Bangkok, we see each celebration as a chance to show our students how much they matter to us. This event was not only organised for the sake of tradition but also to let our students know, they are valued and loved.
Many of our international students are far from their families during this festive season. That’s why we put special care into every detail of the celebration, not just for us, but for them. We wanted them to feel warmth, belonging, and joy, just like they would at home.
No Chinese New Year is complete without delicious food. Our celebration featured a spread of festive Chinese snacks and dishes, lovingly prepared and shared among staff and students. It was more than just a meal, it was a moment to connect, to share stories, and to enjoy the flavours of the season together.
The celebration kicked off with an origami and decoration workshop on January 20th, where students created red paper crafts and festive decorations. Then on January 24th, we came together for a joyful lunchtime celebration. The agenda included:
Wearing Red – Symbolising good luck and joy, everyone showed up in their brightest red outfits.
Sharing Food – Students brought homemade and store-bought snacks to share with friends and classmates.
Mingle & Learn – Through a fun icebreaker, students discovered the Chinese Zodiac signs of two people they hadn’t met before.
Trivia Quiz – We wrapped up the day with an interactive quiz, exploring the traditions and history of Chinese New Year.
