Workshop from University of Leeds at Westminster College Bangkok

At Westminster College Bangkok, we believe that learning should go beyond the classroom. That’s why we are proud to host exclusive workshops with leading universities from around the world. On 5th March 2025, we had the honour of welcoming academic experts from the University of Leeds, one of the UK’s top-ranked universities, for a special lecture session right here in Bangkok.

This inspiring event was a rare opportunity for our students to gain insight from professors who are not only subject specialists but also active researchers in their fields. With over 120 students attending, the session brought global academic experience directly to our campus.

A Special Thank You to the University of Leeds

We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the University of Leeds for joining us at Westminster College Bangkok. Their commitment to global education and their willingness to share their knowledge with our students means a lot to our college community. Events like this show how international collaboration can create meaningful learning experiences and open doors for our students’ futures.

Professors from the University of Leeds Shared Their Expertise

During the session, professors from the University of Leeds delivered three powerful lectures in their areas of expertise: Law, Business, and Engineering. Each talk was designed to spark curiosity, build understanding, and show real-world applications of academic theory. It was more than just a lecture, it was an invitation to think critically and explore the subject on a global level.

Workshop - university of leeds class - Law Class

Law Class: Which Rights Are Human Rights?

Led by Professor Ilias Trispiotis, from the Faculty of Social Sciences (Law), the session explored a very important topic: Which Rights Are Human Rights? Students were guided through the meaning of human rights, how they are defined and protected, and why they matter in both international and local contexts. This session helped our students see how legal systems influence society, fairness, and individual freedom. Many students were inspired to ask deep questions about justice and equality in the modern world.

Workshop - university of leeds class - Business

Business School Topic: Labour Migration in ASEAN

Professor Jonathan Winterton, from Leeds University Business School, presented a lecture on Labour Migration in ASEAN. The discussion touched on the economic, social, and policy aspects of migration in Southeast Asia. Students learned how labour flows affect both home and host countries, and what this means for businesses and governments. This topic is highly relevant to students studying business in Asia, as it connects theory with the practical issues faced by companies in today’s global economy.

Workshop - university of leeds class - Engineering

Engineering Class: Tackling and Solving Challenges Through Engineering

From the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences, Dr Terry Cousens delivered a lecture titled Tackling and Solving Challenges Through Engineering. This class showed students how engineering is used to solve real-world problems from sustainable infrastructure to new technologies. It was an eye-opening session for many, revealing how engineers must be creative problem-solvers and innovators. The session also encouraged students to think about the future of technology and their potential role in shaping it.
